Unsure how often to service your MINI?
Our MINI Service Guide breaks it down Gen 1 R50 Cooper, R53, a Gen 2 , this guide explains what needs doing and when — so your MINI stays in top condition.
Mini Gen 1 (R50 R52, R53 One, Cooper, Cooper S and GP) Service Schedule
MINI’s early models of the R50, R52 and R53 use a defined service schedule approach that is simple to follow: Oil service, Inspection 1, Oil Service, Inspection 2 and so on. We suggest that one of these service points is carried out every 12 months or approximately every 10,000 miles to maintain and monitor good health of the MINI
Oil Service
Despite the name given to it, the oil oil service schedule point doesn't just include the oil and and oil filter change, it includes a pollen filter too. In addition there is a general vehicle inspection covering fluids, lights, tyres and brakes.
To help with the servicing of your MINI R50, R52 and R53 we've provided check sheets for tasks to complete. Download our service check sheet here
You'll need the following items to complete the servicing:
Inspection 1
The Inspection 1 service interval covers the same service points as the Oil Service but involves a more comprehensive vehicle check over. To help with the Inspection 1 service for the MINI R50 R52 and R53 models please download our service check sheet here
Inspection 2
The Inspection 2 Service is the most thorough of the schedule, replacing the most components and having the most in-depth check over. Download our guide to ensure all steps are followed - the download is available free here
Air Filter - couple of options here depending on the year and model of the car and the application:
R50 and R52 One and Cooper - Standard Air Filter or Performance Air Filter
R52 and R53 Cooper S - Standard Air Filter or Performance Air Filter
R53 JCW 210 and GP - Standard Air Filter or Performance Air Filter
Spark Plugs - again this depends on the car type check out the Denso IK range and follow the onsite guidance for plug selection
Every 24 months
Change the brake fluid - the standard fluid is DOT 4 however performance applications we'd suggest using a DOT 5.1. This is safe to use in the MINI brake system, it has a good service life and offers a high boil point than most DOT 4 fluids. For track applications use the high performance fluids such as AP 600 or Motul RBF 660
Every 48 months / 40,000 miles
-
Coolant change

Drive belts inspection and renew. These need to be correct suited to the set of the MINI; use our selector to get the correct belt size for the R%3 Drive belt selector
