Delivery and Shipping

Delivery charges are based on weight (kgs) within the UK and Europe, International orders are based on volumetric weight and may be more than what you pay at checkout. Charges are the same when ordering online, by email or over the phone and include VAT. Items if in stock are dispatched same day (Before 2pm) and sent on a next working day service and includes insurance cover. See our main section below for more details.

Sample Shipping Costs

UK

Orders under £200 are sent by a DHL Express service that is usually a next day service and costs start from £12 depending on weight. 

Orders over £200 are sent for free by a DHL Express service that is usually a next day service

Europe and Rest of the World

For European and rest of the orders, parcels are sent by DHL and costs start from £12 up to 30kg per box. Delivery time takes between 3-7 working days depending on country.

The cleint is responsible for all import duites, taxes and processing fees which are payable to the carrier or carrier agent prior to delivery.

 

Returns & Refunds

Returns

Refunds are available within 7 days after delivery for products that are unused and are in original packaging. Special order goods are non-refundable. Products that are damaged in transit to or from the customer can be refunded up to 14 days after the product has been delivered.

Refunds

Products returned to us in imperfect, non-resalable condition will not qualify for a refund. Products that are faulty due to the manufacturing process are refundable under the manufacturer's warranty for a limited time specified in the manufacturer's terms and conditions. These do not apply if the product has been fitted incorrectly or misused, motorsport use could further reduce the manufacturer's warranty.

If an order is cancelled or refunded the buyer is responsible for the return of the goods to such address as directed by the supplier and is at the consumer's sole expense. This does not affect your statutory rights.

About Lohen Crate Engines

Lohen has used experience and knowledge of the MINI N18 engine to produce a remanufactured performance Crate Engine that strengthens the areas we see as common failure points from our tuning experience. The Lohen N18 Crate Engine is suitable for the MINI Cooper S 2010 - 2014 or MINI JCW 2012 – 2015 and is supplied on an exchange basis.

The Lohen N18 Configuration 4 forged engine features a closed deck construction using Darton's Modular Intergrated Deck (MID) sleeves. The closed deck construction removes the standard cylinder wall and the water jacket replacing these with the MID liners. The Darton sleeves form a solid construction within the block that prevents any cylinder deformation which occurs when boost levels and consequently cylinder pressures are increased. The Darton sleeves allow coolant to flow with its construction aiding engine cooling. The waterways are altered compared to stock so to compensate for this a Supertech performance head gasket is used to allow good flow

The Configuration 4 forged uses forged pistons and connecting rods form a solid bottom end of the engine. The N18 short block is assembled using new piston rings, Mahle Motorsport bearings throughout as well as ARP bolt and stud kits.

The cylinder heads are checked for straightness, then pressure tested as well as having the cam tolerances checked. The cylinder head in the Configuration 4 N18 engine benefits from full Supertech forged valves, beehive springs, and titanium retainers. These tolerate heat better than the standard OEM valve and the profile is optimised for gas flow. The springs are firmer than stock so operate faster avoiding problems relating to valve float and operation in higher RPM and boost points.

These improvements make the Configuration 4 well suited to the hardest driving conditions and most powerful MINIs.

All re-usable engine components are thoroughly cleaned and inspected and all engines are re-assembled using brand new gaskets, seals, and chains.

Please note - Lohen Crate Engines are supplied as timed-up bare units with a sump, oil pump, and rocker cover. All other bolt-on ancillaries are not included. The engines are therefore shipped dry and require final assembly and fluids prior to installation and starting.

If required, Lohen can supply a fully built engine for an additional charge. We also offer professional in-house installation and running in service at our workshop.

Crank Shaft Balancing

Balancing the crankshaft is important when building a performance engine. Weight out of balance from the centre point has a direct relationship to engine speed so, for those pushing the MINI engine harder, it is vital the crankshaft is balanced to improve the durability of the engine and, in particular, engine bearings, reducing engine vibration and improving performance.

Fitting Details

Lohen offers professional, in-house fitting for all products at our workshop in Eccleshall, Staffordshire. Here are the important things you need to know:

Fitting Cost - £1500. Includes installation and running on the dyno.

Lohen Recommends - While the engine and gearbox are out convert the flywheel to a light single mass flywheel and performance clutch. It's also an ideal time to add a differential for a performance upgrade. Consider the Quaife ATB for road and track day use and the 3J Driveline LSD for more track focused applications. Please let us know if you are using an LSD-type differential and we can tailor the gearbox oil to suit. The addition of Samco boost and coolant hose kits is advisable for the high-performance engine. 

FAQ's

Why do we apply a surcharge?

A surcharge is charged because Lohen reconditions and re-uses certain components, such as the head, crank and the crank case. We do this to reduce costs to customer and components will only be used if they pass strict inspection criteria. Any wearable components are completely replaced in the upgrade process.

How it works

The surcharge applies when a donor engine is not supplied back to Lohen or the condition of the donor engine is deemed by Lohen to be beyond re-buildable (i.e. major damage to head, crank, block bores or external parts of the engine.)

Once the donor engine is received Lohen will assess and measure the unit for tolerances and issue any appropriate refund of the surcharge within 7-10 working days. Should certain components within the donor engine be deemed unusable the surcharge will be only partially refunded. Please contact the sales team for full information.
