Description

It's crucial to achieve optimum head-to-block sealing in high compression engines or where superchargers, turbochargers and/or NOS are used. That’s why ARP head studs are popular among performance enthusiast and engine builders. Manufactured from premium grades of 8740 chrome moly steel the studs are made [manufactured] fully in house to ensure the “zero defects” quality.

Every component goes through the heading, transforming the raw materials into the basic fastener shape. The components are then heat-treated in special vertical racks to give 360° penetration, which is far superior to the more common method of “bin” treating, which is followed by shot-peening to remove any surface irregularities.

Following the blanks are centerless ground to ensure they are perfectly concentric, which can take up to ten steps. Only then the stud blanks are ready to be thread rolled, which accounts for a strength 10 times higher than of the fasteners that are threaded prior to heat-treatment.

ARP manufactures nuts in a multi-step process that begins with raw material being fed into a giant forming device. This “blanks” the hex and 12-point nuts and continues with highly sophisticated automated threading equipment tapping each nut with an accuracy of .001˝ (which is five times higher than the aerospace standard). This ensures an exceptionally close-tolerance fit between the bolt/stud and nut.

The studs are then metal finished with a black oxide, the threads are checked by the Quality control department and the completed kits are packed with a protective coating.

You could say: “All that just to make a bolt?!” but the results speak for themselves. ARP supply to the leading teams in Formula 1, NASCAR Winston Cup & Busch Series, IRL, Drag Racing & Rally Teams; now you can have the same race proven technology in your Gen 2 MINI.
