So why replace your MINI's engine?
To put it simply - Strength and Power. As you demand more from your MINI's engine with performance modifications such as an ECU remap, you push the stock components in the engine closer to their limitations. Older engines that have seen plenty of miles already will have worn over the years in key areas limiting the performance you can extract from them and also risking failure if you ask too much. So rebuilding an engine with stronger, more durable and race-oriented parts allows you to up the power demands reliably to a level of permormance you couldn't achieve with a stock engine.
Getting a ready-made crate engine fitted is the fastest and best value way to gain all of the performance and durability benefits of a Lohen engine without the wait of a typical engine rebuild. We refurbish and rebuild MINI engines using high-quality components to produce high horsepower configurations that suit road, track and race needs. Our engines have been put through their paces in endurance races, sprint series and for thousands of miles on the road. By targeting the known weak areas with stronger rods, pistons, bearings and bolts we build engines to a standard that allows MINIs to perform under the stress of the most demanding race conditions.
We currently have replacement MINI engines at our Staffordshire based workshop ready to install for Gen1, 2 and 3 MINIs constructed to meet a range of applications. Below you'll be able to compare these configurations to help determine which suits your needs best.
We make two configurations of the popular MINI R53 W11 engine. As you can see Config 1 strengthens engine block components and Config 2 adds the upgrading of the engine's head components too. Config 1 is a great choice for the driver tuning their MINI for fast road and track day application with a stage 1 ECU remap for example whereas a Config 2 engine gives you the capability to generate high horsepower and withstand the demands of race conditions. GEN 2 MINI Engines - N14 and N18
For second generation MINIs such as the N14 and N18 powered MINI R56 Cooper S, John Cooper Works and GP we have four configurations. Config 1 gives you stronger aftermarket engine block components whilst Config 2 and 3 add strength to the head components as well. Config 4 gives you a full closed deck build to be able to cope with high boost pressure. A closed deck build has more structural rigidity, provides greater support for the cylinders to prevent cracking and provides a better seal with the engine head gasket. All of these benefits allow much more power to be generated from the engine without risking damage to the cylinders. Get in touch and let us know how and where you drive your MINI if you need help deciding which configuration is best for you. If you know what you want then take your pick and add an engine to your basket!
For the B48 powered F-series MINIs like the F56 for example, we have two configurations with engine block components being upgraded for Config 1 and the addition of a head rebuild with forged steel Supertech valves and components for Config 2. All engines can be installed within a week or two here at Lohen in Staffordshire UK. Get in touch if you have any questions or let's just go for it I want more power!
